The Urban Regeneration course analyzes degraded urban areas and aims at their requalification through
project interventions. Urban regeneration, in itself, addresses issues related to the evolutionary and
transformational processes of urban settlements, which are processes influenced and / or dictated by
economic, social, environmental and climatic factors. The course combines theoretical with practical
treatment at different degrees of interventions in the city. Through the study of specific issues, the
theoretical framework on the evolution of urban regeneration and virtuoso contemporary examples, an
intervention methodology will be transmitted that envisages the preservation and integration of the built
parts of the city. At the center of the discussion will be placed the public sphere, both in the physical
aspect and in the decision-making aspect.
Through this approach, the course aims to supplement and further deepen the students knowledge in the
field of planning, urban design, architectural design, and his skills to adapt to complex situations of built-
up territory management.
Intended Learning Outcomes:
Knowledge
• Will have basic knowledge on the main topics and methodologies of contemporary urban
regeneration;
• Will be able to critically analyze an existing urban situation and propose solutions based on the value
of the territory in question;
• Will be able to develop strategies for the recovery of problematic areas from the urban and social
point of view at the territorial, urban and local level;
Skills
