History of Urban Development

Deals with the phenomenon city in its historic transition and gives an
overview on the development of urban patterns from the Neolithic
revolution until today. In addition to the review of the Western development
special attention is given to the Arabian City and its different formations in
Arabia, Africa, and Asia; other examples responding to Western or Arabic
impacts are highlighted.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, a student should be able to:
● Understand the transition of the development of cities in history through
key events
● Appreciate the development of urban patterns as well as the resulting
social consequences until today
● Critically evaluate urban processes and outcomes in history
