I am proud to share my involvement in organizing Albania’s first international private architectural competition, a groundbreaking initiative that sets a precedent for future projects in our country. This competition represents a significant collaboration between local authorities and the private sector, aiming to foster innovation and elevate architectural standards in Tirana.
The selected winner of this prestigious competition, the “Chybik + Kristof” studio, will design a multi-functional building along the new Boulevard of Tirana. This project is envisioned to create an iconic structure that not only enhances the area but also contributes to the city’s identity for the next century. During the competition presentation, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, emphasized the necessity of expanding the capital to accommodate growth and the exciting opportunities that await the city in the coming hundred years.
I take immense pride in the collaborative spirit that has emerged from this process. Our central and local planning teams have successfully established a fantastic tradition of working together with the private sector to organize competitions that attract the best ideas. As Mayor Veliaj noted, the benefits of such initiatives are already evident. The best ideas, like the one for the Plazza project, have transformed into iconic buildings that symbolize progress in our city.
With five international studios participating, the competition not only encourages a diversity of perspectives but also paves the way for future urban developments in Tirana. This competition has also garnered significant media attention, particularly highlighting the winners. Below, you will find some relevant links.
